I teach trigonometry in the geometry setting, using right triangles for our basis. But who discovered these relationships? Was there one person who can take the credit? What information is there about this?
Let me know for extra credit!!

Hi Mrs. Tucker. I found the following:
(don't worry, these are in my own words)
Trigonometry is a greek word. "Trigonon" which stands for triangles, and "metria which stands for measure. So, trigonometry basically means triangle measures. Trigonometry was first discovered by German mathemeatician, Bartholomaeus Pitiscus. This concept was stated in the "Trigonometria sive de dimensione triangulea", which was published in 1595 by Pitiscus. The first usage for tri was for operation, astronomy, and cartography. Present day, the tri concept is being put to use in many fields.
oops, I meant trig when I said tri
Hello, Mrs.Tucker! Thanks for post another queestion! Here are answers for this from my research:
Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with triangles, circles, oscillations and waves; it is absolutely crucial to much of geometry and physics. It is absolutely crucial to much of geometry and physics and you’ll often hear it described as if it was all about triangles.
Right triangle trig was discovered and studied by Hipparchus of Nicaea (180-125 BC), Ptolemy of Egypt (90–180 AD), Aryabhata (476–550), Varahamihira, Brahmagupta, Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Ḵwārizmī, Abū al-Wafā' al-Būzjānī, Omar Khayyam, Bhāskara II, Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, Ghiyath al-Kashi (14th century), Ulugh Beg (14th century), Regiomontanus (1464), Rheticus, and Rheticus' student Valentin Otho.
Madhava of Sangamagramma (c. 1400) made early strides in the analysis of trigonometric functions in terms of infinite series. Leonhard Euler's Introductio in analysin infinitorum (1748) was mostly responsible for establishing the analytic treatment of trigonometric functions in Europe, also defining them as infinite series and presenting "Euler's formula", as well as the near-modern abbreviations sin., cos., tang., cot., sec., and cosec.
Ah, I mean questions not "queestion"! Sorry, Mrs. Tucker!
Basically trigonometry is the study of how the sides and angles of a triangle are related to each other. Many people are reposible and credited for creating trigonometry. Many sites say that many differnt groups of people used trigonometry without even knowing it. An example would be the Greeks with the Sundial.
This is Zach Fremder.
haha
Trigonometry is the study of how sides and angles are related to eachother. The person who came up for trigonometry is Bartholomeo Pitiscus.
